 The Process

Entrants must apply by 5:00pm EST on March 22nd, 2019. 


The application is an excel  document. It can be emailed or delivered to Gail Moorhouse, Executive Director at Community Futures Peterborough, gail@cfpeterborough.ca 

Hand delivered documents will be dated, timed and a receipt will be given for the documents.


Stage 1 – Business Concept

Selection of the top 8 semi-finalists will be made by the Community Futures Peterborough selection committee using the following criteria:

   1. Must be in business for 2 or more years.

   2. Must be located or willing to relocate to within the Greater Peterborough County.

   3. Looking for innovative ideas, products, services or business efficiencies that will create sustainable business growth.

   4. Potential impact for growth on other business within the Greater Peterborough Region.

Entrants will be notified on March 30, 2019 as to whether or not they have been selected as a semi-finalist


Semi-finalists will be asked to participate in the Presentation Lab workshop.  This is a requirement to advance to the Stage 2 - The Pitch.


          Presentation Lab – one day workshop - Friday April 12th, 2019 8:30am – 5:00pm

  • Creating a story line and transitioning between key message points
  • Telling the story
  • Body language in presenting
  • Impact and use of visuals
  • Video simulations of each presentation and feedback
  • Semi-finalists will present to an Advisory Panel and will receive a video and feedback of presentation

  

Stage 2 – The Pitch

Eight (8) semi-finalists will be invited to pitch to the Power Panel at the Live Pitch Competition on May 2, 2019. 

Semi-finalists must make a presentation in front of a live studio audience. Entrants will have 5 minutes to present their idea with a 5-10 minute Q&A to follow. 

The selection of the 3 finalists will be done by the Power Panel using the following criteria:

  1. Potential economic impact to Greater Peterborough Region
  2. Pitch content, delivery and style

Stage 3 - Negotiations

The top 3 finalists will make a private and formal presentation on their projects to the Board of Directors at Community Futures Peterborough on June 18th, 2019. The allotted time will be 15 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for Q& A.  After final due diligence, a winner will be selected.

All three finalists may be eligible for some financial support at the discretion of the board of directors.

Announcement

The winner will be announced at the Community Futures Peterborough Annual AGM & BBQ on June 27th, 2019. The winner will be required to attend the AGM in 2020 and provide the Board of Directors with a follow-up to their success. 

Entrepreneurial Development and Support

Semi-finalists will receive business development and support throughout the competition, whether they are ultimately selected or not. This will include the Presentation Lab, one on one mentoring from members of the Advisory or Power Panels as well Directors of Community Futures Peterborough.


Announcement of Winner

  

The winner will be announced at the Community Futures Peterborough Annual AGM & BBQ on June 27th, 2019. 

The winner will be required to attend the AGM in 2020 and provide a follow-up to their success.
